Animal House Biological Sciences, Flinders University

Clown fish
The Animal House as part of the School Of Biological Sciences provides infrastructure for the housing of both terrestrial and aquatic vertebrates and invertebrates.

Unlike a standard Animal House which accommodates common laboratory species (rats, mice and rabbits) normally found in a facility of this type the Biology facility houses marine species such as clown fish, whiting and perch.

Necessarily the facility is highly geared and structured with aquaria and controlled environment rooms to provide the specific care required. The aquatic theme is reflected in the cool blue and green colour schemes to make the area an attractive work environment.

Complementary to this in the terrestrial theme (the browns reds and yellow of the desert) which provides a backdrop to the spiny tailed lizard, shingle back lizards and snakes housed within the facility.

In addition to these species avian species are also housed but more generally in specially constructed pens at the rear of the main Animal House.

The facility operates standard quarantine and controls for maintaining health and hygiene for animals from reception to retirement.
